The maternity leave date calculator below, will give you an understanding of key dates and whether you qualify for Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP).

GUIDE:

  • Enter the due date that has been given to you at the dating scan

  • Then click 'Calculate Dates'

  • Latest date to join to qualify for SMP - This is the date you need to have started working at your company

  • Calculation Period - This is how they calculate your 90% average and whether your entitled to the weekly average of £187.18 (correct as of April 2025) or  90% of your weekly salary, which ever is lower. TIP - this is a good time to work any overtime, unsocial hours as it will increase your payments

  • Notification deadline - You must inform your employer that you are pregnant by this date

  • Earliest leave start date - This is the earliest you can request to start your maternity leave

  • Automatically starts if sick - If you are off work 4 weeks prior to your due date as a result of sickness your maternity leave will automatically start, this date clarifies the date from when an employer can start your maternity leave due to sickness
